SELF HARM/EATING DISORDERS
One in 10 (10 per cent) of 15- and 16-year-olds has self-harmed, usually by cutting themselves. The most common reason is 'to find relief from a terrible situation'. Young people often feel under great pressure from their families, their school and their peers. Many young people report having friends who also self-harm.
1.1 million people in the UK are affected by eating disorders, with 14 to 25 year olds at greatest risk, and about 20 per cent of those who get seriously ill die prematurely.
